4 yard skip size, dimensions and price
A 4-yard skip is a nominal capacity. A useful middle option for a small renovation, garage project or garden clearance with a clear waste stream. Ask for vehicle access and exact container dimensions before booking.

What does a 4-yard skip cost?
Hardcore £130; clean green waste £150; mixed/general £220. All prices exclude VAT and assume an approved load and safe placement. Confirm the current total and delivery arrangements.
| Skip size | Hardcore only | Green waste only | Mixed / general |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | £100 | Ask for a quote | £125 |
| 4 yard | £130 | £150 | £220 |
| 6 yard | Not accepted | £180 | £250 |
| 8 yard | Not accepted | £200 | £320 |
All displayed skip prices exclude VAT. Delivery, collection and tipping are included in the price. Heavy soil, rubble and hardcore are restricted to 2- and 4-yard skips. Ton bags and skip bags are quoted separately.
Is a 4-yard skip right for your job?
A 4-yard skip holds roughly 35 to 45 bin bags. It's our most popular size for small kitchen refits, garage clear-outs and bigger garden jobs. Like the 2-yard, it can take heavy hardcore, soil and rubble, at £130 + VAT for hardcore only. If your job is mostly light, bulky waste like old furniture and packaging, a 6-yard may give better value.
Jobs this size is typically considered for
Small kitchen work, timber and packaging from a project, clean vegetation or eligible rubble within weight limits.
Rather than estimating from the room alone, list the material type, approximate number of bags or bulky objects, and whether the load contains masonry. Volume and weight are separate limits, so a large light load and a small dense load may need different sizes.
What should not go in it?
The quoted price depends on whether the material is clean hardcore, separate green waste or a mixed load.
Electrical items, batteries, chemicals, asbestos and some upholstered furniture require separate checks. Consult our skip waste guide and ask us if anything is uncertain. Never assume a low weight allows an otherwise restricted item.
Fitting the skip and arranging delivery
The term “4 yards” describes volume, not exact external length or width. Gates, overhanging branches, parked cars and the vehicle’s approach can all affect safe delivery. Send a photograph and postcode to check access. On-road positioning may require a highway licence.
For bulky mixed waste, compare a 6-yard skip; for concentrated rubble, a 4-yard can be more appropriate. Use our size comparison to review alternatives.
Real jobs that fit a 4-yard skip
The 4-yard skip is our most popular size. It holds roughly 35 to 45 bin bags of mixed waste and still fits on most standard drives, which is why it suits so many home jobs.
Typical 4-yard jobs include a kitchen refit, clearing a garage, a medium garden tidy with branches and turf, or the waste from a small renovation. It can also take hardcore and soil, as long as the load stays within the weight limit and is level with the top.
If you are torn between 4 and 6 yards, look at the type of waste rather than the amount. Light, bulky waste like furniture and packaging suits a bigger skip. Heavy waste like rubble suits a 4-yard skip, because a 6-yard skip full of rubble would be too heavy to lift.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put soil or rubble in a 4-yard skip?
Heavy soil and rubble are restricted to appropriate 2- or 4-yard loads, not 6- or 8-yard skips. Confirm material and weight limits when booking.
Are outside dimensions the same for every skip?
No. Dimensions vary between containers and suppliers. Request the precise container measurements if fitting into a tight space is essential.
