6 yard skip size, dimensions and price
A 6-yard skip is a nominal capacity. A medium-large option for approved lighter site waste and property clear-outs. Ask for vehicle access and exact container dimensions before booking.

What does a 6-yard skip cost?
Clean green waste £180; mixed/general £250. No soil or hardcore. All prices exclude VAT and assume an approved load and safe placement. Confirm the current total and delivery arrangements.
| Skip size | Hardcore only | Green waste only | Mixed / general |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | £100 | Ask for a quote | £125 |
| 4 yard | £130 | £150 | £220 |
| 6 yard | Not accepted | £180 | £250 |
| 8 yard | Not accepted | £200 | £320 |
All displayed skip prices exclude VAT. Delivery, collection and tipping are included in the price. Heavy soil, rubble and hardcore are restricted to 2- and 4-yard skips. Ton bags and skip bags are quoted separately.
Is a 6-yard skip right for your job?
A 6-yard skip holds roughly 55 to 65 bin bags. It works well for full house clear-outs, larger renovations and garden overhauls with lots of light material. It can't take heavy hardcore or soil, so if your waste is mostly rubble, choose a 2 or 4-yard skip instead. Green waste in a 6-yard is £180 + VAT and mixed waste is £250 + VAT.
Jobs this size is typically considered for
Renovation packaging, non-hazardous mixed clearance items and eligible green waste when the volume justifies it.
Rather than estimating from the room alone, list the material type, approximate number of bags or bulky objects, and whether the load contains masonry. Volume and weight are separate limits, so a large light load and a small dense load may need different sizes.
What should not go in it?
Soil, rubble and hardcore are not permitted in this size under the published tariff.
Electrical items, batteries, chemicals, asbestos and some upholstered furniture require separate checks. Consult our skip waste guide and ask us if anything is uncertain. Never assume a low weight allows an otherwise restricted item.
Fitting the skip and arranging delivery
The term “6 yards” describes volume, not exact external length or width. Gates, overhanging branches, parked cars and the vehicle’s approach can all affect safe delivery. Send a photograph and postcode to check access. On-road positioning may require a highway licence.
A 4-yard is often a better choice for heavy materials; an 8-yard is for more bulk without heavy loading. Use our size comparison to review alternatives.
Real jobs that fit a 6-yard skip
A 6-yard skip is the step up for bigger projects. It holds around 55 to 65 bin bags of mixed waste, enough for a full house clear-out of furniture and bagged items, a large garden clearance or several rooms of renovation waste.
It is a good fit when the waste is bulky rather than heavy. Old furniture, carpets, timber, plasterboard offcuts and garden waste all suit this size. Heavy soil and rubble do not, because they would take the skip over its safe lifting weight, so our 6-yard skips are for general or green waste only.
A 6-yard skip needs a bit more room than the smaller sizes, so measure your drive before you book. If space is tight, two smaller skips or a skip and a collection can work better than one big one.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put soil or rubble in a 6-yard skip?
Heavy soil and rubble are restricted to appropriate 2- or 4-yard loads, not 6- or 8-yard skips. Confirm material and weight limits when booking.
Are outside dimensions the same for every skip?
No. Dimensions vary between containers and suppliers. Request the precise container measurements if fitting into a tight space is essential.
